Frequently Asked Questions
Will updating delete or overwrite my existing notes?
No, never. Stickies stores all note data in an encrypted SQLite database in your personal Windows folder, %LOCALAPPDATA%\Stickies\stickies.db (or the folder you picked in Settings → Backup & Data). Running an updated installer only replaces the application binary (stickies.exe). Your encrypted notes, color choices, dock position, and active card states are preserved 100% intact.
Do I need to close or uninstall Stickies before installing the update?
You do not need to uninstall the old version. Simply download the latest Stickies_setup.exe and run it. The installer will automatically detect your existing installation, safely terminate the dock process, replace the files, and start the new version.
How do I activate Stickies on a second or third computer?
Each license includes up to 3 personal Windows PCs. Download the installer on your new computer, open Settings (Ctrl+,), go to the License tab, and paste the license key from your Polar receipt. To free up a PC, click Deactivate this PC on that PC, or remove it at your Polar.sh Customer Portal if you can't get to it anymore.
What happens when the 7-day free trial ends?
When the 7 days conclude, a non-destructive modal will invite you to either unlock lifetime access for $4.99 or export your existing notes to standard Markdown files. Your notes are never deleted or held hostage. If you activate a license, your dock unfreezes immediately with all notes right where you left them.
Where do I find my license key if I lost the purchase email?
Search your email for messages from support@polar.sh or stickies.lol. You can also log into your Polar Customer Purchases Portal with the email you used during checkout to view your key and receipt anytime.
